Puppet artist and whistle artist Nikolaus Habjan and the Musicbanda Franui have devised a celebrated evening with songs by the great Austrian song composer, expert in human nature and word acrobat Georg Kreisler (1922-2011). The programme can be experienced for the first time in Tyrol and brings together virtuoso puppetry, singing, sarcastic texts and a unique constellation of instruments consisting of cimbalom, harp, zither, violin, double-bass, accordion as well as all kinds of woodwind and brass instruments.
The most important protagonist of the evening is ‘Lady Bug’, an elderly soubrette created by Nikolaus Habjan who purports to have been on a farewell tour with Franui for fifteen years (in reality it is already 17 years). She dedicates her unique expressiveness devotedly to Kreisler’s creativity as a song-writer and is quick-tempered, opinionated, ingenious, even though she can also be endearing and charming. However, during the course of events her artist’s name proves to be fateful: ‘Lady Bug’ not only means ladybird, but also brings to mind a program error. No matter what, she has to recognize that she is only a plaything.
“And a miracle has occurred: it works, in this way it works. The magnificent wicked biting melancholy songs by Georg Kreisler appear in a fresh new guise, carefully modernised and renovated, rescued into a different time.” (Eva Menasse)
