This evening’s performance is about Paul Gauguin. The French artist lived from 1848 to 1903 and played an important role in the development of European painting. He is known to the general public primarily through this pictures from the South Seas.
Suzanne von Borsody draws a literary and musical picture book of the artist and summarizes his biography. The Gauguin evening presents a sensuous journey in time to the end of the 19th century through the artistic life of the Impressionist painter. The periods of his life spent in France and on Tahiti are highlighted. The programme is complemented by many of his wonderful pictures from his stay on Tahiti, as well as self-portraits from various phases of his life. This stroll full of atmosphere is musically accompanied by works by French Impressionist composers such as Fauré, Satie, Stravinsky and others.
