Reading with music: MARIA CALLAS - LIFE AND PASSION OF THE BELCANTO HEROINE
"Maria Callas was the greatest tragedienne in the history of opera. With perfect technique, glowing intensity and dramatic power. And as a person, a lonely soul - always in search of happiness, love and security. The new biography Maria Callas. The voice of passion by Eva Gesine Baur tells of the drama of her life", wrote Bayerischer Rundfunk on the occasion of the book's publication.
Jonas Kaufmann dedicates a special matinee to the legendary singer: the wonderful actress Caroline Peters reads from the captivating Callas biography by Eva Gesine Baur. The music will be provided by violist Mariko Hara, who is well known to Erl's audience, accompanied by opera expert Sarah Tysman. Famous arias from operas such as Samson et Dalila, Lucia di Lammermoor and Tosca are performed in elaborate paraphrases for viola and piano. It is impossible to imitate Callas' unique voice - but this morning at the Festspielhaus will certainly offer the opportunity to associate it with the gripping passages from her painful biography and thus come closer to the music, life and person in this symbiosis.
