Geistervariationen is the title of Robert Schumann's last composition, which he wrote before being admitted to a mental institution. The title was invented by posterity, as Schumann claimed to his wife Clara that the ghosts of Schubert and Mendelssohn had dictated the theme to him in a dream.
The Musicbanda Franui now plays their own variations of the theme and hallucinates with their unique instrumentation, conjuring up not only the aforementioned ghosts but also the spirits of numerous other composers. During the musical séance, the musicians work together with a visual artist who will transform the ghost variations into a fascinating nature theatre.
