Franui: JOSEPH ROTH - HOTEL SAVOY

Nicholas Ofczarek
Musicbanda Franui

New program in cooperation with the Burgtheater Vienna. A production of the Musicbanda Franui. World premiere

Following the sensational success of Thomas Bernhard's Hölzfällen Franui celebrated with Nicholas Ofczarek, a new joint project is being launched in Erl. This time, the congenial stage combination of the castle actor and the Musicbanda is dedicated to Joseph Roth's novel Hotel Savoy, the was published in 1924. In it, the hotel of the same name in an Eastern European city becomes a microcosm of the disintegration of Europe after the First World War. The novel tells the story of a war returnee who ends up stranded in the Hotel Savoy. It is a place of extreme social contrasts: The rich revel in luxury on the lower floors, while misery reigns on the upper floors. The social tensions escalate and finally explode ..

What awaits us musically: Franui combines operetta hits from the period between 1900 and 1935 with Roth's lyrics. Behind every cheerful melody lurk abysses, catastrophes, tragedies - musical surprises, just as we know and appreciate from Franui.
