Kammerorchester Basel

The Basel Chamber Orchestra, led by its concertmaster Daniel Bard, will make its debut in Erl in 2026. It will present a program of chamber music works, some of which have been specially arranged for this ensemble size, as well as original Romantic repertoire by Tchaikovsky and Brahms. Joining the ensemble will be the young South Korean cellist Hayoung Choi, who won first prize at the Queen Elisabeth Competition in Brussels in 2022.

Daniel Bard concertmaster

Daniel Bard stammt aus Haifa, wo er sein Violinstudium begann. 1990 zog er mit seiner Familie nach Toronto und studierte anschließend bei David Zafer. Von 2007 bis 2017 war er Mitglied des Trio Mondrian. Er ist Mitglied der Kammermusikgruppe Israeli ChamberProject. Eine seiner größten Leidenschaften ist das Kammerorchester. Er wurde von Tabea Zimmermann eingeladen, die Camerata Bern zu leiten und war an zahlreichen Projekten mit der schwedischen Camerata Nordica und dem Norwegischen Kammerorchester beteiligt. Er war Solobratscher der Amsterdamer Sinfonietta von 2009 bis 2016 und wurde 2017 Konzertmeister des Kammerorchesters Basel. Sowohl als Geiger wie auch als Bratschist aktiv, wird er regelmäßig zu Kammerkonzerten in Europa und Israel eingeladen.

Hayoung Choi Cello

Born in Bielefeld, Hayoung Choi studied at the Kronberg Academy and at the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía in Madrid, and is currently completing her studies in Baroque cello at the Berlin University of the Arts. The cellist made her debut at the age of twelve with the Camerata Salzburg. Since then, she has performed frequently as a soloist with renowned orchestras. As a passionate chamber musician, she has collaborated with renowned artists such as Sir András Schiff, Gidon Kremer, Christian Tetzlaff, and Mitsuko Uchida. In 2022, she won First Prize at the Queen Elisabeth Competition. This season, she is Artist in Residence at the Lotte Concert Hall in Seoul. She plays the “Ex Starker” cello by Giuseppe Guarneri filius Andreae, made in 1707.

Kammerorchester Basel

A passion for music and a spirit of musical discovery have defined the Basel Chamber Orchestra since its founding in 1984; the orchestra is dedicated to a broad repertoire ranging from early music performed on period instruments to Viennese Classical music and contemporary works. Based in Basel, the renowned orchestra performs 100 concerts per season, taking it to major European stages and festivals. It continually forges inspiring partnerships with artists such as Sol Gabetta, Christian Gerhaher, Alexandra Dovgan, Vilde Frang, and the Collegium Vocale Gent. Artistic direction is provided by the concertmasters as well as conductors such as René Jacobs, Heinz Holliger, Delyana Lazarova, and Pierre Bleuse. Under the direction of Giovanni Antonini, the orchestra is currently performing and recording all of Joseph Haydn’s symphonies, a project set to continue through 2032.
