Film with music: BEGGARS OF LIFE (1928)
The Dodge Brothers and Neil Brand
When the Festspielhaus Erl is once again transformed into a movie theater in summer, an extraordinary film and music experience is guaranteed - in proven cooperation with the Musikfilmtage Oberaudorf.
The program includes the legendary silent film classicBeggars of Life - a gripping "train movie" from 1928 starring Louise Brooks. Her unmistakable bob made her the style icon of an entire generation and had a lasting impact on film history.
As in the previous year, British pianist Neil Brand and The Dodge Brothers will provide the thrilling live music. Their unique accompaniment breathes new life into the film and makes every scene an immediate experience.
Beggars of Life tells the moving story of a young woman on the run who, disguised as a man, joins a group of "hobos" and travels across the USA on freight trains. A film full of suspense, freedom and raw poetry - preserved today exclusively in its original silent film version and therefore particularly fascinating.
The film evening combines early film history with live music and opens up access to cinema as it was originally conceived - as an interplay of image and sound in a shared space.
