Sensational World Premiere of Amopera
With "Amopera - a dystopian ballad", the Klangforum Wien staged a modern meta-opera in cooperation with the Needcompany, which appeals not only to scene lovers.

"AMOPERA" stands for relationships, contrasts, dead ends and ecstasies with which the glowing and yet inhospitable terrain of love is traversed. From the last scene from Lulu by Alban Berg via "Ach ich fühls" by Bernhard Lang to "A respirar ritorno" from Luci mie traditrici by Salvatore Sciarrino, the working arc of the Klangforum Wien spans.

Inspired by the book "Liebesverrat" by Peter von Matt, who thereby designs a literary history from the perspective of infidelity, deception and disappointment, the Klangforum Wien develops a journey through time through the new in music and opera with the meta-opera - thematically newly set each time. With the technique of montage, editing and condensation, we interweave individual moments from the most diverse operas and decades and bring them to a new effectiveness in the form of an 80- to 90-minute META-OPERA. This format lives above all from the music, a sparse lighting concept and a stringent narrative.

ABOUT THE NEEDCOMPANY
Founded in 1986 as an international collective by Jan Lauwers and Grace Ellen Barkey in Brussels, the Needcompany has since made the world sit up and take notice with groundbreaking stage productions. Maarten Seghers has been a member since 2001, complementing the group that operates multidisciplinarily in the fields of theater, dance, performance, art, film and literature. The Salzburg Festival showed in 2018 with L'incoronazione di Poppea Jan Lauwers' first opera production (2021 as a new production at the Vienna State Opera), followed by the magnificent production of Luigi Nono's "Intolleranza 1960" at the Felsenreitschule in 2021.
