Christmas mood filled the Festspielhaus and the opening concert of the 2023/24 Winter Festival on December 26 became an unforgettable musical event.
BAROQUE MASTERPIECES BY JOHANN SEBASTIAN BACH
The festive cantata "Herz und Mund und Tat und Leben" BWV 147 by Johann Sebastian Bach with its powerful sounds and uplifting choirs as well as the Brandenburg Concerto No. 3 in G major BWV 1048 brought the brilliance of Bach's compositions to the fore and captivated the audience.
HANDEL'S OPERA JEWELS
The second part began entirely under the sign of Georg Friedrich Handel. The mezzo-soprano Bianca Andrew transported the audience with "Ombra mai fu" (from "Serse") and "Dopo notte atra e funesta" (from "Ariodante") into the magical world of Handel's music. The countertenor Iurii Iushkevich delighted with the arias "Chi perde un momento" (from "Giulio Cesare in Egitto") and "Lascia ch'io pianga" (from "Rinaldo").
ANTONIO VIVALDI'S "WINTER"
The fitting conclusion was "L'inverno - Winter" Op. 8 No. 4, RV 297 from Antonio Vivaldi's "The Four Seasons" and invited the listeners into the frosty splendor.
