As already in the premiere series two years ago, so also in the revival no one remains unimpressed sitting, when suddenly a postillion - more or less on behalf of the French king - leaves his newly wedded wife to become a celebrated opera star in Paris. When he then tries years later to marry his wife, whom he no longer recognizes, for the second time, almost gets hanged for it and finally everything turns out well, then one is entertained in the best manner of an opéra comique.
The spirited music of Adolphe Adam carries you away and leaves you with one or another earworm.
The choir and soloists of the evening know how to enchant both through their voices and through their acting talent.
The audience was enthusiastic, multiple intermission applause and a minutes-long, roaring final applause gave the team around director Hans Walter Richter the unmistakable sign that everything was done right.
