Acclaimed Premiere of "La Bohème"

Successful start of the new artistic direction of Jonas Kaufmann

On December 27, 2024, enthusiastic spectators – including Governor Anton Mattle – experienced the start of the new artistic direction of the Tiroler Festspiele Erl by Jonas Kaufmann in the sold-out Festspielhaus Erl. The new production of Puccini's "La Bohème" was enthusiastically received. Particularly acclaimed were "Rodolfo" Long Long, who only took over the role from an ill colleague almost two weeks ago, and "Mimì" Sara Cortolezzis, who as a romantic-tragic love couple warmed the hearts of the audience.

Young, carefully selected voices at the beginning of an international career are being engaged by Jonas Kaufmann for leading roles in Erl. They found enthusiastic approval, as did chief conductor Asher Fisch, who musically directed the performance with sovereign hand. The production is the responsibility of director Bárbara Lluch, who together with set designer Alfons Flores and costume designer Clara Peluffo Valentini presents a seemingly timeless "Bohème" interpretation. The sad-tragic moments are shown with almost oppressive intensity, and on the other hand, the short-term joy of Parisian artistic life appears in great splendor of color, whereby the ambivalence inherent in the opera comes strongly to the fore.
