It was mainly events with a traditional character that were quickly sold out in the winter season. The "Christmas Oratorio", the Christmas and New Year's concerts, the evening with the Musicbanda Franui and the final concert gave the festival a full house and enthusiastic listeners. The impressive production of "Snowflake" in the direction of Florentine Klepper was also well attended. The work by Rimsky-Korsakov, which is rather unknown in Central Europe, touched the audience in a special way, and the critics were also full of praise for this programmatic decision of the artistic director and the successful production. Special enthusiasm was aroused by the singer ensemble put together by Bernd Loebe, which was excellently cast down to the smallest roles. The revival of the successful production of "Le Postillon de Lonjumeau" also stood out with a great cast and an enjoyable production.
A novelty brought the performance of "The Count of Luxembourg" - in concert form. The magnificent score by Franz Lehár brought Erik Nielsen to bloom, the singers prepared a true operetta feast for the guests. Through the tasteful presentation of the evening, the charm of the piece unfolded in the hall of the Festspielhaus even without scenery.
In Erl, preparations now begin for the "Piano Days" from March 21-24, 2024 and above all the demanding summer season. Twice between July 4 and 28, 2024, "The Ring of the Nibelung" in the production by Brigitte Fassbaender will be on the program. Artistic Director Bernd Loebe continues the course with rediscoveries of forgotten or unjustly neglected operas with the production of Tchaikovsky's opera "Mazeppa". Additionally, he presents in his last summer in Erl a Schubertiade with pianist Paul Lewis and a variety of chamber music concerts. For the young guests of the Festspielhaus, there will be two family concerts: already on March 17, 2024, the "Carnival of the Animals" will sound in the Festspielhaus, at the family concert on the theme of "Ring" under the title "The Light Motif" on July 16, 2024, the complete festival orchestra will then play for young and old in the Passion Play House.
