When natural treasures meet cultural gems

A city and its eight surrounding villages make up the incomparable Kufsteinerland. The Kaiser Mountains have been under conservation for over 50 years. There are some real hidden treasures to discover. Right in the middle of it all is the Kaiser valley. In 2016 Austria’s most renowned TV channel selected it as the most beautiful spot in Austria. For visitors it can only be reached via 345 steps. Then they are rewarded with breathtaking views, off-path hiking trails and the traditional mountain hut culture.

The “Nature Experience Kaiser Mountains" - is even easier to reach: The Kaiserlift Kufstein takes visitors comfortably to the Brentenjoch up to 1,200 metres of altitude within 20 minutes. The Kufstein Fortress is the city’s landmark and a popular tourist attraction all throughout the year. Every day the “Heldenorgel” (hero’s organ) can be heard at the bottom of the fortress. With 4,948 pipes, it is the largest outdoor organ in the world! 2019 marked the anniversary of Emperor Maximilian’s death and this with the installation of various permanent international exhibitions.

In terms of culture and cuisine, the region offers a wide range of different events. The summer starts with the festival of indulgence “Kulinaria”, which transfers seamlessly into “Kufstein unlimited”, the biggest Pop-and Rock festival in western Austria, and ends with the high calibre events of the “Erler Festspiele” (Tyrolian Festival Erl). In between these events, people meet at “OperettenSommer Kufstein” (Summer of Operettas Kufstein) or for a delightful and exclusive dinner as part of the culinary series “Natur.Küche” (Nature’s kitchen).

Happiness can be found in many places in Kufsteinerland, especially during the ‘glück.tage’ (happiness days) – a festival of literature, philosophy, nature and indulgence.​​​​​​ With autumn approaching, there are more customary events to see: The “Ebbser Blumenkorso” (Ebbser Flower Parade), “Almabtrieb” (the traditional return of the cattle from the alpine pastures) and the passion plays in Thiersee (2022) and Erl (2025) reflect the population's appreciation for their traditions.

Want a holiday centred around sport, adventure and relaxation? Perfect! Sports like bike racing, mountain biking, trail running, climbing and high Alpine tours can all be enjoyed to the full in Kufsteinerland.

And when you want to relax, crystal-clear natural bathing lakes such as the picturesque Thiersee and Hechtsee lakes are almost on the doorstep. The excellent wellness establishments, health resorts and traditionally-run accommodation establishments are also the perfect place to relax.

Our summer adventure programme offers lots of options for enjoying time out in nature. Special walks are linked in with Tai Chi or Qi Gong. A focal point in 2019 is the theme of herbs. Yoga too has a part to play in Kufsteinerland. The ‘yoga.tage’ (yoga days) will be taking place in July 2020.

Der Sommer startet mit dem Genussfestival KUlinaria, geht mit Kufstein unlimited über in das größte Pop- & Rockfestival Westösterreichs und gipfelt in den hochkulturellen Veranstaltungsreigen der Tiroler Festspiele Erl. Dazwischen trifft man sich beim OperettenSommer Kufstein auf der Festung oder bei einem exklusiven Geheim-Dinner der Kulinarikreihe Natur.Küche. Glück findet sich im Kufsteinerland an vielen Orten, ganz besonders während der glück.tage, ein Festival für Literatur, Philosophie, Natur und Genuss. Traditionell geht es Richtung Herbst weiter: Der Ebbser Blumenkorso und festliche Almabtriebe spiegeln das Brauchtumsbewusstsein der Menschen im Kufsteinerland wider.
