Bel canto, beautiful singing: this sounds like Italian lightness, even the spoken word conjures up images of sunshine and memories of holidays spent in the southern sunny climes. If ever a concert hall was predestined for bel canto, indeed more or less cries out for it, this is so true of the Festspielhaus (festival hall) in Erl. The singing style, aesthetics and technique of bel canto that characterized above all Italian operas from the 16th to the 19th century, are expressed with utmost refinement in
this hall. The Tyrol Festival Erl uses this quality to present to its guests a selection of the most beautiful arias and compositions by highly renowned composers of this epoch – Gioacchino Rossini, Vincenzo Bellini and Gaetano Donizetti as well as early works by Giuseppe Verdi. The programme includes Donizetti’s overture to Don Pasquale, and arias from the Rossini operas Semiramide and La Cenerentola, the cavatina Regnava nel silenzio from Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor and the ballet music from Rossini’s Guillaume Tell. Audiences can look forward to an evening full of musical bliss!
